Inauguration Day

As I'm sitting here writing, the rest of my family is gathered around the TV watching various presidents arrive at Amahoro Stadium for the Inauguration of President Kagame. Last count that I heard was that 15 presidents were in the country for today... who knows what the count will be  today.

It's a great day for Rwanda.

Last night they were encouraging people to start coming to the stadium by 5am this morning. It's packed and thousands are outside as well. I am sure there are few Rwandans that are not gathered around a TV or listening to the ceremony on the radio. Later today there will be parties in all the umudugudus - villages - every 150 houses. The rumor is that tomorrow will be declared a holiday as well so people can recoup from today! :-) I'm liking the sounds of that...

The slogan for the day is 'The Journey Continues...' and yes it does.
Rwanda is indeed on a journey. I believe that God has Rwanda on a journey which includes healing and development in the form of unity. It's an exciting place to live in this world. Our prayer is that God continues to bring favour to this small nation and its people.

Now to get my kids away from the TV long enough to get out of their pyjamas!

Good day indeed!!
...and I love reading over the last few days how Rwanda is standing up for itself in light of that new UN report. It's so sad that the global community is still attacking a nation that's rebuilt themselves in to something amazing...

You got it. Guess who showed up today to have a little chat with President Kagame... Ban Ki-moon. Guess he's pleading with Kagame not to pull our troops from Darfur as they're the best. Guess NGO's and the like say they're going as well if the Rwandan troops head out as they are most trained and bring the most security. Crazy I tell you... that and the revised report on rape in Congo. INSANE!! Somehow, somewhere, sometime some people / countries in the west need to be men and woman rather than hiding behind the UN or whatever...

Yeah, I saw that this morning on New Times... Hopefully that wakes up the UN a bit.
And yeah, the whole rape issue in DRC is pathetic in how the UN is dealing with it! They're trying so hard to cover up the issues and divert attenion away from it, when they really just need to (forgive my bluntness) grow a pair and actually follow through on what their mandate is! But I guess it's hard to do that when the "peacekeepers" on site are just as corrupt as the malitias they're supposed to be protecting the people from... how can they openly work with the malitias on one hand, running mines and taking bribes and then fight against them on the other hand when they're ransacking villages? BAH!! So much more to the stories the big media are telling if people actually took the time to look in to it...
